Like many east coasters, I’m a bit wary regarding the upcoming predictions for a storm that may end up hitting us hard. Or not. The last time we had a hurricane warning, Robert and I moved all of the outdoor furniture, toys and mobile plants into the house. For nothing. Then, this July, with no warning at all, we were hit with that freak Derecho storm, and suffered a broken fence and a broken fruit-bearing apple tree due to another felled tree. We were without power for almost four full days in temperatures that topped 100 degrees. Robert, Tucker and I slept in the basement in an attempt to stay cool. We drove around each afternoon to delight in air conditioning and charge our phones. We threw out almost all of the refrigerated food, and everything in the freezer. For that storm, the water and flashlight isles were not empty days before. They are again, now, as they always are with the hint of a storm. There is always a huge run on toilet paper too, which confuses me as I wonder – even if this storm gets bad – why people need so much extra TP. Anyway, Robert’s already moved our backyard indoors. And made me (because I don’t really see the point just yet) asked me nicely to bring in all of the front yard Halloween decorations. I hope I’m right that it won’t be that bad. Because being without power sucks. At least this time, we won’t be suffering such hot weather.
We’ve already received notice that Tucker’s school is closed tomorrow and Tuesday, as are all of them in our county. Granted, our county is extremely over-reactive in closing schools, but I suppose when it comes to risking children being stranded due to closed roads or stuck on busses for hours at a time trying to get home, that it’s better to err on the side of caution. Still, it is a bit of a bummer as he’s missed six days over the past two weeks due to being sick. Ok, that’s not really why it’s a bummer. I need some time to get things done! I also hope it doesn’t mess up our trick-or-treat plans, because this neighborhood rocks when it comes to that. Almost everybody decorates and there are kids everywhere trolling for candy. It’s awesome and makes me really love our ‘hood.
So, wish us (and all east coasters) luck over the next few days. Here’s a photo of our outside in. I can’t help but freak out a bit hoping there are no bugs on any of the stuff, stretching their legs and exploring our cozy warm home. Shudder.

Love&Giggles - Glad everything’s ok! Funny thing is Kodiak won’t close down school unless there are several feet of snow in the morning and usually they don’t shut down then. Must be nice to live somewhere it shuts down all the time. October 28, 2012 – 9:23 pm
