Finding Ninee » Sharing our parenting and special needs stories with heart and humor.

Like the good mom that I am, I make Tucker a hot breakfast each morning.  Well, pretty much every morning.  Some days he gets cereal and fruit.  Oh, and that one day, he had Oreos.  But, whatever, today was a hot breakfast day.  While I was slaving in the kitchen, my adorable sweet boy came […]

I just realized last night that I haven’t been helping Tucker practice saying “Trick or Treat.” Last year, he had just turned two in July.  When October 31 came along, it seemed like him not saying anything was ok.  He was still a baby.  But this year, people generally expect so much more of him.  […]

  • Jennifer - I saw that Facebook post too and loved it but the way you could make it speak personal in this article made it more great. It made me cry when I saw the part about he still has your heart and that yours breaks when people judge him. My db has cp, so we even struggle taking him out because Halloween isn’t very handi access able but I’m trying to spread awareness too and think your website is very welcome even when the parents have such different concerns because its so clear that you talk openly and with a lot of yourself out there so thank you. I will tell my friends and parents. And if you could pray and send welcome thoughts for mine too I’d love that. 🙂November 1, 2012 – 8:04 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for your comment and for visiting Finding Ninee. I so appreciate hearing from other parents. Do you have a blog or Facebook page for your son? If so, I’d be happy to share it on my Facebook page. Maybe it’d help find other CP moms?
Best of luck and of course I’ll send my thoughts to you and yours.
      Thanks again.November 2, 2012 – 10:34 amReplyCancel

  • Kate - I found your blog an hour or so agao and I can’t believe it. Word for word your son sounds like my son Cooper. We also live in the gray area. He doesn’t have autism but definitely has some traits that fall on the spectrum. And the hardest part of all is that he has no words yet. Thank you for your blog. Your posts are amazing. I am so happy I found it!January 23, 2014 – 9:54 amReplyCancel

Some of you may have read the post in which I expressed annoyance with my (used to be much more loved) dog Chief.  He fell into second place when Tucker was born.  I swore it wouldn’t happen.  And then it did. I think Robert got a lot of satisfaction reminding Chief in Tucker’s early days […]

  • MomboMombo - sorry – but just have to giggle out loud! our furry kids get jealous too for our timeOctober 31, 2012 – 7:12 amReplyCancel

    • admin - Too true that our furry ones get jealous. Tucker also gets jealous when other kids at the playground pet Chief. He’s all about the swings and slides until somebody wants to give the poor dog love. Then he’s all over him telling everybody that “Sheef mine!”October 31, 2012 – 11:27 amReplyCancel

  • Sara - Ha! Hilarious! Poor Chiefly. He’s not a young pup anymore. It sucks getting old. ….but YOU look great! Have you lost weight??

Is it just me, or is there something fun about hunkering down and preparing for a storm?  We’ve got flashlights and candles, lighters, snacks and blankets ready for soon-to-be here (maybe) Hurricane Sandy.  We’ve got Tucker’s books and favorite toys in findable places and have the iPad charging.  There’s something exciting about running to the […]

  • Rachel - I also think there is something fun about preparing for a storm. Plus you get a weather day from school/work so as long as there is power we can bake and watch movies! People stock up on water because if the power goes, yes, the faucets work but if the water sanitation facility is out of power for long enough, the water becomes unsafe to drink or even use for showers. You can boil the water but if there is no power you can’t do that either. Living through multiple hurricanes I was always told that if a bad one comes your way to fill everything you can with water before it hits.October 29, 2012 – 1:08 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Rachel, thank you! I seriously had no idea. Glad you’re at home, too and you’re right, it’s a perfect day for baking and watching movies! Enjoy!October 29, 2012 – 1:12 pmReplyCancel

  • Henriette - Well Rachel just pointed out the reason so no need for me to do it. 😉

All prepared here and for some reason I have a lot more wine than water…. Shocking I know!!! Just sent Sal on one last pre-hurricane shopping trip while O and I are zonked out in front of the tv. Better enjoy those cartoons now before power is out! Stay safe!!!October 29, 2012 – 2:00 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Henriette,
Just fill up the tub and then you’ll have more water than wine! That’s my plan. As I’m sure Sal will tell you, it’s deserted out on the roads. Weird, and eerie. Hope you all stay safe too!October 29, 2012 – 2:26 pmReplyCancel

I think I was in third grade when my dad tried to take my younger brother and me to see the original Star Wars movie.  After bouncing with excitement for more than an hour while standing in a line that snaked itself all the way around the building, we were turned away from a sold-out […]

Like many east coasters, I’m a bit wary regarding the upcoming predictions for a storm that may end up hitting us hard.  Or not.  The last time we had a hurricane warning, Robert and I moved all of the outdoor furniture, toys and mobile plants into the house.  For nothing.  Then, this July, with no […]

  • Love&Giggles - Glad everything’s ok! Funny thing is Kodiak won’t close down school unless there are several feet of snow in the morning and usually they don’t shut down then. Must be nice to live somewhere it shuts down all the time. October 28, 2012 – 9:23 pmReplyCancel
