Thankful that grapes give their lives to make wine

I felt bad about washing grapes while drinking wine last night.

It felt sort of like I was petting a cow while eating a hamburger.

Does anybody else out there contemplate the fact that grapes have given up their little lives so that we may enjoy wine?  It’s something I actually think about more often than I should admit.  Much in the way that Native Americans thank the buffalo for providing them food and warmth, I offer up little prayers to grapes, thanking them for sacrificing themselves to the fermentation process so that I may enjoy the result.

I wonder if they go willingly or if they fight.  I prefer to think that they go willingly.  Their time on the vine is up anyway.

Grape

Seems that thanking them is really the least I can do.

Prayerforgrapes

What.  Is that weird?

  • Courtney - I love it! While I haven’t ever thought of grapes and wine, I often have similar thoughts. Nothing wrong with it 🙂 as always, love the pictures!December 11, 2012 – 9:37 pmReplyCancel

  • Joy - Hahaha, that is so cool! Actually I never thought about that before. Maybe I don’t drink wine too often. I prefer sparkling wine (which is made of grapes, too, I know) or cocktails. I also like the connection to the cow and the hamburger, lol!

Oh, and I am not on Twitter. I am on facebook, I have my own blog… I think I spend enough time with social media! Uh-oh.December 12, 2012 – 3:02 amReplyCancel

  • Janine Huldie - Never quite thought of it this way, but I am not sure I will look at grapes quite the same way, now lol!!May 21, 2013 – 8:07 amReplyCancel

  • Kristi - I guess I think about this dumb stuff so nobody else has to.May 21, 2013 – 8:12 amReplyCancel

  • Kenya G. Johnson - LOL!! Love the analogy. Just in the last year something internally flip the script on me and made me all allergic feely after having wine. It started with white wine and ended with red. Headaches and stuffy nose. I finally had enough of them to give it up – sadly 🙁 Now THAT’S WEIRD!May 21, 2013 – 8:35 amReplyCancel

  • christine - I actually feel worse for the ones which become raisins. Poor dried up fruit that so few people enjoy…May 21, 2013 – 8:56 amReplyCancel

  • Kathy G - I’d never thought about how a grape’s ultimate sacrifice turns into a tasty beverage. 🙂 ~TALU~May 21, 2013 – 9:15 amReplyCancel

  • Chris at Hye Thyme Cafe - Just stuck a bottle in the fridge to chill for later – now I’ll think of you and laugh when I open it. 🙂 [#TALU]May 21, 2013 – 10:19 amReplyCancel
