What? I’m posting something today? On, um… a not-Finish-the-Sentence-Friday day? Well yes, yes, I am. Because school’s out for summer! And, we’ve recently had an epic water gun fight, the last day of school, and a birthday celebration. Which, I should be clear, happened two weeks ago…Also, there are three short videos in this post, and all make me happy, but there’s one that makes me extra happy.
With our move to Colorado happening LIKE RIGHT NOW, we decided to go ahead and host our annual water gun fight on the last day of school. This was our third formal year, although the play with water shooting one another from gun-shaped devices has gone on longer.
I hope it’s a tradition we carry through always. Even college kids like water gun fights, right?
Anyway. Before I get to the epic water gun fight, the last day of school, and a birthday celebration, we had the second-to-last day of school party.
My friend Rebecca and I organized it although their teacher, Mr. G, had the theme down, and was super awesome about decorations, etc.
The kids had a blast.
There was water balloon play and this video makes me happy.
And dance moves. This video makes me happy, too. Because dance moves in third grade? Gah. These kids have my heart and I can’t believe we’re starting over. Tucker and I have known most of these kids since kindergarten.
Back to the water gun fight.
So we’ve had this water gun fight here for the past few years, but mostly, it’s been organic. We tell the neighbors “Hey, we’re doing this! You should stop by!”
This year, when Tucker asked me when we’d be celebrating his July birthday (because we usually celebrate before friends go on vacation and evaporate to summer activities), I felt terrible that we hadn’t even thought of that. With the move, it, too, felt like One More Thing, until I suggested combining our water gun fight AND his birthday celebration.
This photo makes me happy. Tux with the watergun intensity, his friend eating pizza because pizza is important, and his friend smiling, having eaten his pizza knowing he’s so cool.
School’s Out for Summer! Epic Water Gun Fight, the Last Day of School, and a Birthday Celebration (plus, a video I love and you probably will too)
“Can we make it a goodbye party, too?”
“YES!”
We made it so, even better than Picard (bonus points for that reference).
There were 30+ kids here that Friday afternoon, and maybe another 15 (?) adults. It’s hard to say because it began on our patio out back, and people were there, and everywhere. At one point, I took a video of kids and adults standing in front of the house, to the side of it, down the block, and even in the forbidden territory of the complex directly behind us.
Because it was a short school day, I think a lot of the kids hadn’t yet had snacks, so the drinks I’d lined up for them (one during the water play, and one for pizza) were gone in the first 45 minutes.
“Like locusts,” I thought.
Really.
Luckily for me, the moms drank more slowly and the beer and wine lasted throughout the party.
Anyway, if this video doesn’t make you happy, I don’t know of one that will.
Because, look.
This video makes me happy! The happiest.
And that’s it for now really. Because that “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TUCKER” video is the point.
I’m behind on posting at all, and will write more about the move, I promise.
I cried, of course. We’ve left the home I walked new baby Tucker around in, after my husband almost missed his birth.
We’re in Colorado now, but not in the new house. Like I said, I’m behind but I wanted to post this because Tucker will be NINE YEARS old this week *gulp* and because if I don’t post it now, it’s not going to happen at all. And like I said, this video makes me too happy to not share it.
Happy OMG it’s July, friends! xo
