Yucky

Being a mother seriously changes us. I’m not talking about the “ooh and ahh” moments. I’m talking about what I did last night without even thinking about it. If you read Tuesday’s post, you know that Tucker is sick. He seemed better last night. He wanted to play, run a bit and helped me set up Halloween decorations outside. Because he seemed to be feeling so much better, I decided that after two nights of not brushing his teeth (He was sick!! And hates it!), that I’d do so last night.

All was fine until we went into his room and he started gagging. With intent. When he started to vomit, I reached out to catch as much of it as possible. Without even thinking about it. There is no other person on the planet that would trigger this type of reaction from me. I love my husband, my parents, my siblings and my friends but if any of them started to gag, I’d quickly back away and be completely grossed out if any puke landed on me. In fact, I’m not sure whether I’d try to catch my own vomit if I were unable to make it to the bathroom. I guess moms just do the yucky jobs. I’m sure I’m not the first mother to do this, and realize it’s not exactly award-worthy, but seriously, moms rock. We’re the ones who pick up the accidental bathtub poop, whose gut reaction is to try and catch the puke and who get boogers wiped on us regularly. And we don’t really mind. Huh.

What yucky jobs have you done for your kids?

  • Henriette - Yup been there when O got a bronco pneumonia followed by an acute gastritis two weeks later. Safe to say there wasn’t one surface of the house that hadn’t been puked down… Including me! The hand action came into play when I was trying to save what was left of the couch. I left that couch behind when we moved from China althou it was two years old. Sick kid pluss dog = gross and beyond salvation!October 18, 2012 – 10:42 amReplyCancel

    • admin - Ouch that she got pneumonia and then acute gastritis! Your poor couch 🙁October 18, 2012 – 10:52 amReplyCancel

  • Sara - I don’t have kids, but there have been things I’ve done for my dog that have surprised me (and disgusted my pre-dog self). So yeah, I kinda get it.

    • admin - Life is sort of disgusting and gross in general. And thank you for your comments I SOOO appreciate them.October 19, 2012 – 11:36 pmReplyCancel

  • Joy - Yes, same here with the puke and all that gross stuff. My husband always gags and almost pukes along when Sunny is sick so it is my job to take care of it… and I just don’t mind and that surprises me the most! 😉December 31, 2012 – 4:12 amReplyCancel

    • admin - It always surprises me that I don’t mind, too! You’re rocking the comments! <3December 31, 2012 – 8:26 amReplyCancel
