I’ve read a lot of tweets and posts that hope that 2013 is better than 2012.  I guess I hope that, too.  But at the same time, I’m really thankful for 2012.  Prior to this past year, we were able to remain in the land of denial regarding Tucker.  His problems, his speech delay, and […]

  • Misty @ Meet the Cottons - lol. love this post! at this moment in time, i think my new year’s resolution is to convince my five year old son that, no, girl scouts is not for boys, too! seriously, though, i really want to do a journal a day entry in a book where you can record a little tid bit of information about the same date for, like, five years in a row. did that make sense? i saw one in a magazine years ago but never got around to ordering it. i’ve got a brand new composition notebook i think will work just fine (i’m planning to have about six of them to get me through 365 days). i’ll have to make a blog post about it if i get around to it…..i’m already two days behind on it!January 3, 2013 – 3:03 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Thanks, Misty! I think it’s adorable that your five year old son wants to be in girl scouts. Who can blame him? The cookies are awesome…
I think the journal a day entry is an awesome idea. I can’t wait to read your post about it!
      Thanks for the comment. You rock.January 3, 2013 – 3:20 pmReplyCancel

    • Joy - I bought one of those journals for one of my best friends last year, but it was only for three years. But I really still like the idea. Wonder why I did not buy one for myself.

Apart from that, my not-really-resolutions are quite similar to yours, Kristi, you already read them!January 3, 2013 – 4:48 pmReplyCancel

      • admin - I know! I’m going to be better about going to the doctor, too. So thanks for the reminder!January 3, 2013 – 5:26 pmReplyCancel

        • Misty @ Meet the Cottons - i scheduled my annual appt today thanks to you guys!January 3, 2013 – 5:58 pmReplyCancel

          • admin - You did? Wow, good for you! You totally ROCK…January 3, 2013 – 6:04 pm

          • Joy - That’s cool, Misty!January 4, 2013 – 1:44 am

  • Henriette - Ok lady, enough with the photos. Can we now bring the drawings back? Pretty please? 😉January 3, 2013 – 3:59 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Ha! Just for that, I’m going to post ANOTHER photo tomorrow. I was going to anyway…but yes, I’m on your drawings! The next one will be dedicated to YOU. so there.January 3, 2013 – 5:28 pmReplyCancel

      • admin - And by the way…any bloody idea how long it took me to add those photos to a 2012 number dealie? No, no you do NOT…sigh….January 3, 2013 – 11:22 pmReplyCancel

  • Emily - Love your napping goal..I’m going to add that one to my list of goals too.:) And I love your attitude about Tucker…your acceptance and willingness to do whatever you can to help him. He’s very lucky you’re his mom.January 3, 2013 – 5:24 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Being well rested is important for us moms. Especially those of us who stay up too late writing blog posts that only a few people read. And tweeting. 😉
Thanks so much for the sweet comment! That means a lot to me. I sometimes feel guilty for not pursuing speech therapy and school sooner. But, without school earlier, I’d have missed out on so many fun days of playing, so I’m not feeling THAT guilty. Thanks again!January 3, 2013 – 5:30 pmReplyCancel

  • Marcia - OMG I love the period part. Every single month I struggle with this. You are so funny!!January 4, 2013 – 12:24 amReplyCancel

    • admin - What is up with us that we don’t get this yet? Really!!January 4, 2013 – 9:57 amReplyCancel

  • Kerri - Those younger moms have WAY too much time on their hands if they can make their own food. I had to do that for Boo because of allergies and it was a horrible experience.January 4, 2013 – 9:29 amReplyCancel

    • admin - Thanks, Kerri! Shuddering at having to make your own food. Hopefully you don’t have to any longer?January 4, 2013 – 9:58 amReplyCancel

  • Sara - Great post! Great attitude. And seriously, WTF is the deal with the monthly accidents? I’m right there with you and get so disproportionately pissed every bloody time b/c WHY HAVEN’T I SORTED THIS OUT YET??? Then people like Sandi say they’ve never had a bloody accident and I want to throttle them. Ugh. Solidarity, sister.January 4, 2013 – 9:56 amReplyCancel

    • admin - Aw thanks, Sara! I told you before…Sandi is destined to poop her pants at work. Karma is like that and there’s no escaping it. And I AM going to sort this out THIS YEAR! Sadly, it’s too late to figure it out this month as I’ve already failed. But I have 11 more months. I’m going to win, damnit!January 4, 2013 – 9:59 amReplyCancel

  • Jackie - Love your comment about the baby food! Reminds me of when I was touring daycare centers when my son was a baby. The director took us to the infant room and showed us the shelf where parents brought in their babies’ food. She said, “Some parents make their own baby food — that usually lasts two weeks.”January 5, 2013 – 6:58 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Thanks, Jackie! I’m glad it’s not just me with the aversion to making her own baby food. I mean really! And thanks for the comment!January 5, 2013 – 7:37 pmReplyCancel

  • Courtney - First, I love your collage. Brilliant. Second I agree, while our 2012 ended yucky, it was a wonderful year for us. Life always has ups and downs, so every year counts. Third, I like your goals. I lost 50 pounds by making one small change at a time… Good luck and here’s to 2013January 5, 2013 – 11:40 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Yo sweet girl (I’m allowed to call you that as your recent blog post said you’re ringing in 34 and I’m well…not)!! Thanks for the comps on the collage…took me hours because I lack general talent and skills. Yes, every year counts. Some, more than others. I’m impressed that you lost 50 pounds….I gain and lose the same 12 over and over and over again…2013, I want to not only not care about the pounds, but the health behind them….
      Love to you and yours!January 5, 2013 – 11:46 pmReplyCancel

We’re back!  Oh dear blog, I missed you! The flight to Denver was perfect.  Tucker was perfect.  It seems dumb now that I was so worried about him behaving well on the flight.  He blew us away with his coping skills and overall excitement at seeing planes, riding in planes and being an awesome kid.  […]

  • Emily - Sounds like you had an awesome holiday…(I love aquariums too). Our break wasn’t nearly as exciting as one of my son’s injured his knee playing basketball so we spent a lot of time indoors…we plan to make up for it over President’s week vacation though! 🙂January 2, 2013 – 6:36 pmReplyCancel

  • Jennifer - You know this is different from your usual posts but I really love it. It’s fun to see all the photos and hear about your holidays. Happy new year! Oh I like your other posts too lolJanuary 2, 2013 – 7:33 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Thanks, Jennifer. Ya, it’s a little different but I wanted to get some photos in there and it’s hard to be funny when I’m talking about how much I miss Colorado’s snow…January 2, 2013 – 7:52 pmReplyCancel

  • Sam - Your holiday sounds fun. What great pictures too. Thank you far sharing all that you do. And I think you look a little like your aunt but with lighter eyes and a different nose. Do you know your birth mother too? I’m guessing you we’re adopted or something?January 2, 2013 – 7:36 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Sam, thanks for the nice comment. I met my birth mother one year ago November. And yes, I was adopted when I was a baby. I always knew.January 2, 2013 – 7:53 pmReplyCancel

  • Marcia - Even thought its not funny I really enjoyed this post. Glad your back!January 2, 2013 – 8:04 pmReplyCancel

  • Marcia - Actually you have very same noses!January 2, 2013 – 10:13 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Yes, the bottoms are exactly the same! 🙂
      Thanks for the comment…January 2, 2013 – 10:15 pmReplyCancel

  • Rachel - I totally relate to be more nervous than need be about how my child will react to things, especially things like riding in planes. And I’m completely jealous that you have snow!January 2, 2013 – 10:44 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Ugh Rachel, I’m totally jealous that we had snow in Colorado too! No fucking snow here…
      Thanks mucho for the comment!January 2, 2013 – 10:50 pmReplyCancel

  • Roshni - wow! What an amazing time you all had!! Wishing you all a wonderful year ahead!January 3, 2013 – 1:16 amReplyCancel

  • Joy - Oh, how I missed your blog and your comments! Good to have you back! Thanks for sharing all the wonderful things that you did! Our holidays were not as exciting as yours.January 3, 2013 – 3:00 amReplyCancel

    • admin - Joy! I missed you too! Happy new year!January 3, 2013 – 12:30 pmReplyCancel

  • Sara - Tucker is so cute I can hardly stand it. Nice pics.
Your aunt looks nice (good friendly Colorado stock) 😉January 3, 2013 – 10:09 amReplyCancel

    • admin - Thanks Sara. And she was super nice. To think I was nervous about it. Silly me…January 3, 2013 – 12:31 pmReplyCancel

  • Robert - Peyton is numero uno. He broke John Elway’s single season records. He has led the Broncos to the NFL’s best record. Denver and all Bronco fans should thank Peyton and the University of Tennessee (for your outstanding punter and two defensive lineman as well) as they reflect great credit (not to mention 13 wins) upon their team, the great state of Colorado and others.
Now to the important part. We need to teach our Tucker to read NFL defenses, audible at the line of scrimmmage, the play action fake, and to throw to the outside shoulder on sideline patterns. Tucker or TD Campbell needs to buy his Momma a new house that she will hopefully let Daddy live in.January 8, 2013 – 9:52 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Daddy’s gonna be lucky to live there, talking about Peyton being better than John Elway…Just saying…January 8, 2013 – 9:53 pmReplyCancel

A few months ago, one of Tucker’s friends gave us her old fish tank after upgrading their own.  I was completely excited because I knew that Tucker would love it.  Off to the pet store!  I got the un-chlorinating liquid and PH powder stuff, a filter system, a heater and some other crap that I […]

    • admin - Or maybe it’s my husband’s turn. Forever.December 30, 2012 – 4:43 pmReplyCancel

      • Joy - Best suggestion ever! 🙂December 31, 2012 – 2:38 amReplyCancel

  • kerri - Holy crap, I am laughing so hard right now. I am so happy the fish lived. I don’t think they would have in my house. Can I recommend a nice glass of pinot grigio during step 5. Heck, probably in 3 so you remain hydrated while walking back and forth. Then definitely in step 7 so you can have that sense of accomplishment 🙂

    Happy New Year!December 31, 2012 – 10:52 amReplyCancel

    • admin - Thanks, Kerri! And as to the nice glass of pinot grigio during step 3, 5 and 7…why didn’t I think of that?!?

Happy New Year to you and yours! 🙂December 31, 2012 – 12:32 pmReplyCancel

  • Andi at Bringing the Sunshine - All I have to say is…BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!January 1, 2013 – 12:47 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Thanks, Andi!January 1, 2013 – 3:07 pmReplyCancel

  • Courtney - Ha! You will get a better system sometime! Funny drawings. Fish tanks are so heavy and tricky. that’s why we have a tiny beta bowl. 🙂January 2, 2013 – 5:25 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Argh, Courtney, I’ve considered ditching the whole thing more than once for a tiny beta bowl! Thanks so much for the comment!January 2, 2013 – 7:51 pmReplyCancel

  • Jenn @ Something Clever 2.0 - That was hilarious, but if you’re looking for real advice, you need a gravel vac and a plecostomus (it’s a fish that eats algae).February 19, 2013 – 12:35 amReplyCancel

    • admin - Thanks for the comment, Jenn! The gravel vac is how I almost beheaded the fish in the first place (I know, remove them but PAIN). I’ve been meaning to get an uglyass plecostomus for a while…February 19, 2013 – 6:19 pmReplyCancel

  • Janine Huldie - We (my husband) killed too many fish in the last few months and now have yet to get a new fish for our small tank. In hubby’s defense, it all started when we lost power with Hurricane Sandy and just went down hill from there!! Seriously, Kristy could relate to this post in more ways than one, lol 🙂February 28, 2013 – 8:56 amReplyCancel

    • admin - Ah Janine, think twice before replacing those nasty buggers! They’re MESSY. 🙂February 28, 2013 – 7:12 pmReplyCancel

  • Kenya G. Johnson - LOL!!!! I so enjoyed this. My fish tank is over due for a cleaning. We’ve had this tank since 2009 and I am sooooooo sick of it. The first time I cleaned my tank to death I did kill some of the fish. Now they won’t seem to die no matter what. I haven’t changed the water since November. I keep topping it off when the running water sound starts to get on my nerves. The rocks are so disgusting now. I’m trying to decide if you’ve inspired me to do something about it. LOL!February 28, 2013 – 9:39 amReplyCancel

    • admin - They’re such a PAIN! I’d never have taken this “free” tank from our friends had I known how nasty fish actually are. Somebody suggested a placastamus (sp?) which I need to try.February 28, 2013 – 7:12 pmReplyCancel

  • Kenya G. Johnson - P.S. One of our first fish name was Fin too.February 28, 2013 – 9:40 amReplyCancel

  • Jen - I was sooooo happy the day our last fish died! I mean… I was sooo sad 😉 Cleaning that tank was a nightmare! Three whole years!!!!! Tell you what, we got dogs after that. WAY EASIER!February 28, 2013 – 7:41 pmReplyCancel

  • Debbie - Well, I’m glad that fish made it alive. Oh no, what I meant is I’m glad you’ve made it, Kristi. #kiddin’ Haha 😀
Cleaning our fish tank is really a hard work for some people.
Maybe this post could help you to do it more efficient http://goo.gl/vIog32

    Good Luck Kristi 🙂February 18, 2014 – 4:31 amReplyCancel

Disclaimer:  I cannot take full credit for the genius behind a letter from Santa like this.  Back in the 90’s, my dad wrote a similar (most likely funnier) letter to our dog Kali from Santa and stuck it in her stocking.
