They’re Called Grandmas

Before my son was born, my husband Robert and I joked about how old we’d be during different phases of Tucker’s life.  Robert asked me to remind him to kick my ass when he becomes a 60-year old keeping track of a teenage boy out on the town.  I guess that extra five years of youth I have on him means that he’ll be too old to remember for himself and I’ll be just close enough to the end of middle age to be able to remind him.

I mentioned “I wish I knew more mommies my age,” and got the reply of “You do. They’re just called Grandmas now.”

  • Robert - Despite the fact that when my father was my age he had a 30 year old son and I have one who is three, I have nothing but joy for our little boy and his ninees and his beautiful and sometimes cantankerous mom. I believe everyone will enjoy the wit and wisdom, trials and tumult and hope and happiness of raising Tuck.September 20, 2012 – 7:50 pmReplyCancel

      • Taryn - You two are GREAT parents; hopefully, Tucker will outgrow this developmental difficulty, and some boys take a longer time to get the talkity-talk thing down, unlike Kristi and I — who were chatting endlessly, in utero. Our poor mothers! With two smarty-pants parents like you, Tuck is going to be just fine!September 21, 2012 – 8:05 pmReplyCancel

  • Debbie - Wrinkled Mommy - I mentioned “I wish I knew more mommies my age,” and got the reply of “You do. They’re just called Grandmas now.”

Oh that is classic! I love that part.

    It’s weird being old enough to be a grandmother and have a newborn.October 12, 2012 – 6:23 pmReplyCancel

    • admin - Debbie, it IS weird being old enough to be a grandmother with a little one. Once, in Georgia, I was actually asked if I was Grandma. Not my proudest moment! 🙂October 12, 2012 – 8:54 pmReplyCancel
